Around August-September every year, each sub-licensed plant propagator provides a price list and order form for certified bare-rooted runners and plug plants for each variety that they wish to sell to commercial fruit growers. 

Not all producers supply all varieties, and this is a commercial decision made by each plant propagator. 

Normally commercial fruit producers fill out the form to order plants for the next planting season, and return it with a deposit. 

It is essentially a legal contract to supply a quantity of plants of each variety to strawberry producers under certain conditions imposed by the propagator. 

Approximately 93% of strawberry producers order plants in advance and these are called priority orders.  Full payment for plants is required before delivery. 

It is not mandatory for producers to order plants, but if this is not done, and all plants are sold, they may not be able to source plants. 

An important part of the contract is that purchasers must sign a non-propagation agreement, which does not allow them to multiply the plants supplied any further, and any sports or variants remain the property of the variety IP owners.
